Allen Matkins, a California-based full service real estate and business law firm, announced today the hiring of Renée Robin as a senior counsel in the Land Use and Environmental & Natural Resources Practice Groups of the firm’s San Francisco office. Renée’s practice at Allen Matkins focuses on renewable energy law, environmental, land use, natural resources, and agriculture, representing private and public clients in permitting, development and transactional matters.
In the agricultural arena, Renée has represented agricultural producers, processors and wholesalers in organic product certification, distribution, processing and labeling. She has developed policy positions on agricultural regulations for organic farmers on issues of compliance, market orders and certification standards. She has also assisted agribusiness clients with renewable energy and related real estate and contractual matters.
Most recently, Renée was director of permitting and senior counsel for a global solar energy development and manufacturing corporation where she directed its land use and environmental permitting operations, and provided in-house legal counsel services on a wide range of regulatory, land use, land management, environmental and natural resources matters for its utility & commercial business unit.
Prior to her tenure there, Renée’s private law practice included wind, solar, biofuels, agricultural, and real estate projects where she was responsible for local, state, and federal development entitlements, planning and zoning approvals, environmental assessment (CEQA and NEPA), coastal, wetlands and endangered species matters, as well as land conservation, agriculture preservation and water resources.
Renée has also served as legal counsel for the Coastal Zone Management Office for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. She was also previously legal counsel and legislative director of the State Coastal Conservancy of the State of California, where she was responsible for developing strategy and legislation to provide revenue bond authority for urban waterfront restoration; prepared analyses for transferable development rights, formation of non-profit land trusts, technical assistance to land trusts and prepared conservation easements for natural resource and agricultural land protection.
Renée received her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Prior to that, she received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brandeis University. Renée is admitted to the California Bar.
