Amazon has made a rapid expansion into the East Bay in recent years and is continuing to add to its footprint on the other side of the Bay Bridge. In another deal, the e-commerce giant has leased 203,500 square feet at 6045 Giant Road, according to an Amazon spokesperson.
Amazon is looking to have the property in operation by August of this year. According to a marketing flyer obtained by The Registry, the building features 32-foot clear heights, 55 loading docks and 215 parking spaces. The building also features 7,383 square feet of office space and skylights.
Amazon’s spokesperson could not confirm precisely why the company selected 6045 Giant Road, but stated that the decision is typically based on available square footage, proximity to other sites in the AMZL network, and whether or not the property is already properly zoned for production, distribution and repair or industrial uses.
The property is near a number of hubs, including Amazon’s own distribution centers. The company leases 707,820 square feet at 2995 Atlas Road, which is part of the Pinole Point Commerce Center, and 224,145 square feet at 6015 Giant Highway. 6016 Giant Highway is owned by LaSalle Investment Management, a subsidiary of Jones Lang LaSalle, while the Atlas Road property is owned by CenterPoint Properties.
Amazon’s need for space continues to grow as its subscription base also increases. By the end of 2021, the subscription side of its business grew 20 percent year-over-year, according to data from Seeking Alpha. If the company’s current growth is maintained, subscription business revenues will increase to $100 billion in the next five years.
