SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Anton DevCo, a leading West Coast apartment developer-owner-manager, has started construction on Anton Pacific, a mixed-use apartment community with 205 units and 11,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz.
The seven-story building, which will include two levels of structured parking, will be centrally located in the beachside city’s downtown district at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Laurel Street. The luxury apartment building will be completed in 2023. Anton’s general contractor affiliate, Anton Building Company, will serve as the project’s general contractor.
Future residents will live just steps from the historic downtown district’s award-winning restaurants, cinemas, one-of-a-kind shops, live music and Kaiser Permanente Arena, home of the Golden State Warriors’ G league basketball team. Anton Pacific is just a half-mile from Main Beach and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and less than three miles from the University of California, Santa Cruz campus.

The apartment community is Anton DevCo’s first in Santa Cruz – and the company’s third in a Qualified Opportunity Zone, a government-designated area designed to encourage private investment. Other projects Anton is developing in Opportunity Zones include Anton Elevate in Brooklyn Basin in nearby Oakland as well as a to-be-named project in Aurora, Colo.
The apartment community, among the largest-ever developments in the downtown district, will help meet the city’s Downtown Plan of creating a place that people choose to meet friends – naturally and spontaneously – accommodates civic events as well as informal gatherings, and where people live and work.
Anton Pacific will contribute to the already vibrant downtown district and provide much-needed housing, a critical issue for the 65,000-resident city about 30 miles southwest of San Jose.
The apartment community’s ground-floor retail space will feature two-story high ceilings and outdoor patio areas to accommodate sidewalk dining, with a handful of different operators expected to eventually occupy the space.
The apartment building will consist of 48 studios, 98 one-bedroom and 59 two-bedroom units. Anton Pacific will also include a rooftop deck, spa, a state-of-the-art fitness center, fire pits and more. The rooftop deck will feature fireside seating, dining areas and barbecue grills. A 1,300-square-foot indoor lounge with kitchen and bar are attached to the rooftop deck with views of the Pacific Ocean and the Boardwalk’s Giant Dipper Roller Coaster.
The apartment community in Santa Cruz is the sixth currently under construction in the Bay Area for Anton DevCo.
