As several major tech companies are shedding office space up and down the West Coast, Apple has for the moment gone the other way and signed a lease for an office building in Sunnyvale, according to a report by The Mercury News. The 150,000 square foot building is part of a three-building campus that’s owned by Kilroy Realty and is located at 605 West Maude Ave.
Industry reports show that the building’s previous occupant was LinkedIn, which still has offices located in the surrounding area but has also been among those companies decreasing their office footprints. Other nearby businesses include Walmart Labs, Google and Meta as well as other Apple offices.
The full 663,460 square foot tech campus where the property is located consists of three mid-rise office R&D buildings, a five-level parking garage, and an amenity building that includes a fitness center, cafeteria, café areas and outdoor seating in a large courtyard, all of which sits on 15 acres, according to the property’s website.
Kilroy Realty is a real estate investment company with more than 14 million square feet in its portfolio that spans five distinct regions, according to the firm’s website. The company’s goal is to “provide premium, adaptable and productive work environments” for a variety of industries that include technology, media, life science, entertainment and professional services.
“We create dynamic work environments that support our clients’ businesses, with standards that include indoor and outdoor common spaces, flexible floor plates and adaptable office plans, and of course, state-of-the-art infrastructure and amenities,” the firm’s website states. “Our approach is centered around our clients’ successes, and we focus on the features that increase productivity and employee retention.”
Last year, Apple expanded its base in Sunnyvale with the purchase of a 58,200 square foot office building for $46.5 million, or nearly $800 per square foot, according to The Registry’s previous reporting. The property was sold by Harvest Properties and Invesco Real Estate. That one-story building is located at 470-474 Potrero Avenue.
