San Mateo, CA – December 3, 2019 – Far East flavors with West Coast vibes will soon be on the menu in Silicon Valley showcased in bright and flavorful bowls and specialty cocktails. Bamboo Asia has signed a lease to bring its fresh, healthy and flavorful menu to Bay Meadows in San Mateo. Joining a growing lineup of unique retail tenants that includes Blue Bottle Coffee, Fieldwork Brewing Company, Roam Artisan Burgers, Tin Pot Creamery and LIFT Fitness, Bamboo Asia will be located in the Town Square of the mixed-use village.

“Our goal has always been to expand to the South Bay and Bay Meadows in San Mateo is the first step. We’re very excited about this location because we will have the opportunity to launch a full bar with specialty cocktails, kid-friendly dessert counter, life-sized games and outdoor seating with fire pits,” said founder Sebastiaan Van De Rijt. “Bay Meadows attracts a mix of families and professionals working in the area and we’re very excited to design an experience that offers something for everyone.”

Utilizing fine-dining cooking methods like sous vide to cook humanely raised meats, sustainable seafood and local veggies, the Bamboo Asia team is able to reduce fat and infuse high-quality spices and herbs into their dishes. The restaurant’s unique street market style setting features three counters—Japan, India and Vietnam. Customers can create their own dish or choose from specials like the Northern Catch (fresh salmon, tempura shrimp, rock crab, edamame, avocado and eggplant chips), the Spicy Peanut Pork Bowl (BBQ pork, broccoli, coconut corn, peanut lime sauce) and the Banghra Bowl (tandoori chicken, chana chickpeas, curryflower and tomato curry).

Bamboo Asia is targeting a third quarter 2020 opening date. Matt Holmes and AJ Schrader of Retail West represented Bay Meadows in the deal. Bamboo Asia was represented by Tammy Choy and Nadine Whisnant of Colliers International.

“Bamboo Asia complements the retail we’re curating at Bay Meadows beautifully. We are excited about their cocktail program and the fresh and varied menu items that really complement the existing retailers,” said Janice Thacher, partner at Wilson Meany. “Bamboo Asia will appeal to families, office tenants, residents and neighbors and the outdoor dining will be really special. We can’t wait.”

The pioneering transit-oriented Bay Meadows development is seventy-five percent complete, with over 1600 residents in townhomes and apartments, the Nueva School serving 400 high school students, several companies innovating in state-of-the-art offices (Survey Monkey, OpenText and Guidewire among them), gardeners sharing in the community garden, visitors enjoying public art and neighbors regularly utilizing Bay Meadows’ 18 acres of parks and open space.

Life in Motion

Bay Meadows was designed to give homeowners the luxury of pulling into their driveway on Friday evening and not have to drive again for the weekend. Whether they need groceries, want to enjoy a picnic in a gorgeous 12-acre park, plant heirloom tomatoes in the community garden, or hop on a train for a night out in San Francisco, residents can do it all car-free. They are also able to wake Monday morning and walk down the block to catch a train to an office in Silicon Valley, San Francisco or any destination served by Caltrain. Or, they can walk to work at the adjacent LEED-certified office buildings. Bay Meadows truly brings the concept of a “forwardly mobile” lifestyle to the Bay Area.

The Bay Meadows’ plan includes 1,150 units of housing, 780,000 square feet of LEED-certified office space, 40,000 square feet of retail and 18 acres of open space. The community’s Delaware Street is envisioned as a social hub, an intersection of work and play that inspires spontaneity and interaction. This urban village represents the new downtown-style and environmentally friendly living that residents and workers increasingly seek.
