Heritage House & Valle Verde Apartments will offer housing to low-income families and individuals

Napa, CA – June 24, 2022 – Leadership from Burbank Housing, the Gasser Foundation, and Abode Services were joined by state agencies, officials from the City of Napa, County of Napa, and financial partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of not one, but two affordable housing developments in northeast Napa. Once completed, the communities of Heritage House and Valle Verde Apartments at 3700 and 3710 Valle Verde Drive will bring a total of 90 homes to families, agricultural workers, and formerly homeless individuals in need of permanent supportive housing

Both Heritage House and the Valle Verde Apartments offer affordable housing options for households earning less than 60% of the area median income. The property was previously owned by the Gasser Foundation who spearheaded early efforts to get the project started and donated the land to Burbank Housing. The property is owned by Heritage House Partners L.P., a partnership that includes Burbank Housing and Allied Housing, Inc., an affiliate of Abode ServicesAs the project’s lead developer, Burbank Housing’s President & CEO Larry Florin expressed excitement that this long-planned-for development was finally underway and noted his appreciation for the support it has received.

“The start of construction demonstrates to those who came out nearly two years ago to voice their support for this project that there are solutions to the dual issues of homelessness and housing insecurity. With this continuing support we’re certain that this groundbreaking will be the first of many. Congratulations to the elected officials, city and county staff, and housing activists who stood behind us throughout this process.”

As the on-site supportive services provider for Heritage House and Valle Verde Apartments, Abode Services’ CEO Louis Chicoine appreciated the opportunities the two developments will offer to those in need.

“We are very excited to be partners on Heritage House and Valle Verde Apartments, which will create much needed supportive housing in Napa County by repurposing an existing building next to new homes built on a previously undeveloped parcel,” said Abode Services CEO Louis Chicoine. “This innovative solution reflects the creativity of this region. Heritage House and Valle Verde will allow our most vulnerable neighbors a chance to regain their footing and rebuild their lives while making our community stronger.”

Heritage House is an adaptive reuse of an existing assisted living facility that is being rehabilitated and converted into 66 affordable apartments consisting of 58 studios and 8 one-bedroom units. Valle Verde is the new construction of 24 multifamily apartments consisting of 12 one-bedroom units, 6 two-bedroom units, and 6 three-bedroom units on an undeveloped parcel of land adjacent to Heritage House.

James Vossoughi, Executive Director, Community Development Banking at Chase, the project’s main construction lender, highlighted the innovation of the project’s two-development approach.

“There is an ongoing need for affordable housing in our local communities and the work Burbank and Allied Housing are committed to is important now more than ever,” said Vossoughi. “Not only will the project be new construction, but it will also revitalize a vacant assisted living facility, providing much needed permanent supportive housing and housing for farmworker individuals and families with on-site supportive services to help its future residents thrive.”

Construction for Heritage House and Valle Verde Apartments is planned for completion in the summer of 2023, with 100% occupancy of the units by December of 2023.
