USGBC: Healthy Economy Forum

August 4 @ 11:00 am - August 5 @ 6:00 pm PDT

Healthy people in healthy places equals a healthy economy. This is USGBC’s new strategy intended to leverage the USGBC community to support buildings and communities in a post-pandemic world.

In this inaugural forum, we will convene and listen to global stakeholders on how sustainable practices can help transform new and existing spaces to be healthier and have a positive impact on people and the economy. This forum is a call to action so that we can define how we build people’s trust that their spaces are healthy and have a positive impact not only on their communities and the environment, but the economy at large.

The impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic will be felt for years to come – on the economy, on people and on our way of life. Remaining resilient – both in business and in life – will require every industry and individual to adapt in ways we never thought possible.

How will we build a healthier, more sustainable future for current and future generations to honor the lives lost? How will we rebuild our economy and replace unprecedented job losses around the world? How will we remain resilient against future threats to our global health, like climate change? And, how can we ensure the trust people have in feeling safe and healthy in the spaces where they live, work, learn and play?

Call for Ideas

Share your knowledge and influence the future of healthy spaces by participating in the Healthy Economy Forum. USGBC is seeking ideas from experienced professionals throughout the industry on how we can work together to evolve our work and vision given the current public health crisis.

Our stakeholders – architects, engineers, construction workers, healthcare leaders, facility managers, developers, economists and more – can shape the future of the economy. On August 4 and 5, USGBC will convene influential voices across these groups in a virtual forum to hear perspectives and inform the roadmap for our new “Healthy People in Healthy Places equals a Healthy Economy” vision to deliver a more resilient future.

The world we return to might look nothing like the one we’ve left behind. To support the global recovery, our ideas must be relevant to people and scalable across different building types, new markets and diverse contexts throughout the world. This requires new steps, discipline of measuring our progress and disruptive thinking.

We are challenging our stakeholders to present their best ideas to support healthy people, healthy places, and a healthy economy. We will hold sessions for each stakeholder group and then come together to turn those ideas into a comprehensive vision and roadmap for USGBC’s new strategy prioritizing people, health and the economy.

Submissions for ideas should address one or more of the following questions:

  • How do we communicate the risk, health and safety of places where people live, work, learn and play?
  • How do we increase confidence in healthy places through planning, measurement and recognition?
  • How can we enhance our current design, construction and operational strategies to ensure our spaces are healthy?
  • How do we demonstrate the health and economic impact of our spaces?
  • Which partner organizations or policymakers can join us on this vision? Who is missing from this conversation?

Presentations of each idea should be 10 – 15 minutes in length.
