James Tefend, AIA, Promoted to Principal at Bay Area Firm
SAN FRANCISCO: Form4 Architecture announces the promotion of James Tefend, AIA, to principal. Form4—whose additional leadership team comprises principals Robert J. Giannini, John Marx, AIA, and Paul Ferro, AIA—is known for its innovative and thoughtful buildings and interiors for global technology companies, mixed-use developments, educational campuses, and cultural institutions.
Tefend joined Form4 in 1999, as project architect/manager, and was associate principal prior to being named principal. “For 17 years, James has contributed to the success of Form4 Architecture,” said Giannini, citing Tefend’s skills in comprehensive building code, planning, and site utilization strategies, as well as construction drawing and construction implementation for new building and renovation/adaptation projects. “James is a great partner with our clients, moving fast when they need us to move fast, and is always resourceful and accessible,” continued Giannini. “He performs a miracle a day.”
Tefend’s wide ranging specialties include corporate office campuses, commercial retail centers, educational facilities, libraries, municipal transportation centers, fitness resorts, and places of worship. Signature projects include the Edward M. Dowd Art and Art History Building at Santa Clara (CA) University, The Bay Club in Cupertino, Pacific Athletic Club in San Diego, VMware in Palo Alto, and Netflix in Los Gatos. A graduate with a BA in Architecture from Washington University, St. Louis, Tefend earned a Master of Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the International Code Council.
