Geno Yun Joins Gensler as Design Director

Gensler, the international architectural, design, and planning firm, announced today that Geno Yun, AIA, has joined the company as a design director in the company’s San Francisco office.

In his new position, Yun will lead Gensler design teams on commercial and retail projects, primarily in the Northwest region.

Before joining Gensler, Yun managed his own architectural design practice, concentrating on design services for commercial, retail, community recreation, educational facilities and custom residential design. Prior to founding his practice, Yun was a principal at ELS Architecture and Urban Design, where he oversaw the design of numerous projects, including award-winning designs for the PF Chang’s and Wilkes Bashford at the Stanford Shopping Center; the Neiman Marcus at the Westfield Topanga mall; Westfield’s Solano mall dining terrace and the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center, the first LEED Silver certified outdoor aquatic center in the country.

His recent projects include the redevelopment planning of Bloomingdales at Stanford Shopping Center, Flemings Steakhouse and Wine Bar in Palo Alto, Menlo Park Mixed-Use Planning studies and Stanford Barn renovations for Stanford University’s Department of Real Estate.

“Geno combines his passion for place-making design with attention to detail and commitment to service. From big picture planning to individual building designs, his work is well known for bringing creative visions to projects of all scales,” said Barry Bourbon, Principal, at Gensler. “His portfolio of work is diverse, yet not defined by specific building types. Instead, he is committed to the process of design, engaging clients in the conversation and building upon the collaborative experience.”

“Gensler was attractive to me, not just because of its global design reputation, but the total integration of urban design and land planning, architecture and interior design, brand design and graphics, and sustainable design,” said Yun. “I firmly believe in a collaborative team approach and communicating the concept early in the design process. I look forward to working with a team of talented individuals on exciting new projects.”

During his career, Yun has been the director of the AIA East Bay Chapter, the chair of the CED Joint Lecture Committee at UC Berkeley, and a member of the USGBC LEED for Retail Committee.
