Kirsten Fordyce-Wheeler Joins Gensler

SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 1, 2016) — Gensler, the global design firm, announced today that Kirsten Fordyce-Wheeler has joined its aviation practice area as Design Director. Fordyce-Wheeler brings a global background in Interior Design having previously managed planning and design services of new terminals, concourses, facilities and more – including the award winning Hamad International Terminal in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. In this role, she will utilize her diverse set of skills to enhance the firm’s practice area and work with existing and expanding aviation clientele.

Prior to joining Gensler, Fordyce-Wheeler held the position of Vice President, Director of Interiors, at Hellmuth Obata Kassabaum, Inc. (HOK) where she was responsible for project design and management. During her tenure at HOK and beyond, her portfolio includes high profile aviation projects including the Hamad International Terminal, Doha, in Qatar and Qantas Domestic Terminal in Sydney, Australia. Additionally, Fordyce-Wheeler’s portfolio expands beyond aviation having worked in various sectors including technology, health care, law offices and more.

Fordyce-Wheeler’s most recent project, Hammad International Terminal, has won various awards including the 2015 Skytrax World Airport Award for “Best Airport in the Middle East,” “Strategic Project of the Year” Award at the 2015 Global Projects of the Year, and “Best Airport” awards at the 2015 Future Travel Experience (FTE) Asia Awards. She is committed to the design industry community and serves as a member on the National Council for Interior Design Qualification and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). Furthering her leadership in the aviation area, she recently spoke on the passenger experience at the 2015 Passenger Terminal Expo in Paris France. Fordyce-Wheeler earned a Bachelor of Design from the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.
