Julian Halkett and Andy Kirby Each Bring Decades of Experience in Local, National and International Planning, Design and Construction Management
SAN JOSE, CALIF., DECEMBER 21, 2015 – After opening its San Jose office less than two years ago and continuing to increase its project capacity in the region, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (McCarthy) is expanding its management team with the additions of Julian Halkett as preconstruction director and Andy Kirby as project director.

Halkett brings a rich history in South Bay commercial architecture and construction having served in senior preconstruction and project management capacities for regional design and construction management firms. His experience includes business development and cultivating long-term client relationships, leading project development throughout design, preconstruction and construction phases, and creating successful value-add models and strategies to ensure the highest-quality building product, such as implementing design-build, utilizing BIM technology, and streamlining processes for the client’s benefit. Industries served include: high-technology, research and development, manufacturing, higher education and public. Halkett earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
Deeply entrenched in the Northern California public and private development market, Kirby brings more than a decade of construction company operations and project management experience. He joins McCarthy after serving as vice president, Northern California region for Pasadena-based general contracting and construction management services company, C.W. Driver, where he was responsible for construction scheduling, financial management and subcontractor management, as well as cultivating and maintaining client relationships. Previously, he managed construction projects for the U.S. Navy, including international mobile hospitals in Spain, Iraq, Kuwait and Africa, as well as a wide range of domestic federal projects. Kirby is a certified Designated Design-Build Professional™ (DBIA) and serves on the DBIA Bay Area Chapter Board. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in systems engineering, and he obtained a Masters of Construction Management from the NewSchool of Architecture + Design in San Diego.
McCarthy’s dedicated San Jose office, which opened in 2014, has experienced substantial growth in less than two years, with current projects that include: two new student housing facilities on Stanford University’s campus; Stanford University Medical Center’s new Adult Hospital; parking structures for Santa Clara Square, a 100-acre sustainable community of office workplaces currently under development by Irvine Company; a $150 million technology campus project for a market-leading company; parking facilities supporting Westfield Valley Fair mall’s expansion; and the Critical Operations Facility for the County of San Mateo; among many others.
