SAN FRANCISCO, CA – JANUARY 28, 2020 – When Tishman Speyer’s MIRA welcomes residents in early 2020, it will feature a state-of-the-art fitness center designed by fitness expert Jay Wright, chief executive of The Wright Fit, a company which specializes in functional performance training. Continuing with the fitness theme, the assisted stretching studio StretchLab has signed a lease to occupy an approximately 1,350-square-foot, street-level retail space at MIRA. StretchLab offers a variety of stretching services for customers in both one-on-one sessions and small-format group stretches.
When designing the new fitness center for the Studio Gang-designed MIRA community, Jay Wright relied on his strategy of creating balance and functional longevity to support healthy aging and encourage movement patterns that our bodies have naturally evolved. Focus was placed on making the space user-friendly and multi-functional so that residents who are both casual and serious about their workouts can maximize their routines.
“MIRA’s fitness center has a good balance between strength and conditioning training, and we were able to stay faithful to our design principles while fitting all our desired types of programming into the space,” says Wright. “We stay away from fixed, path-of-motion machines because that’s not how your central nervous system is wired to communicate with your musculoskeletal system. Our machines are all cable-based, which allows for movement through a full, fluid range of motion.”
“We know that human beings were designed to run, jump, climb, lift, and carry things,” continues Wright. “If we help people work with their physiology, we can put them in a position to develop a pathway to an extraordinary quality of life, as defined by them.”
The Jay Wright-designed fitness center at MIRA will feature a curated selection of modern machines including stationary bikes, climbers, rowers, and cable crosses from leading companies such as Peloton, Matrix Fitness, Nautilus, Schwinn, and Atlantis.
“It’s not about having a six pack of abs, it’s about understanding how your abs translate into movement, strength and power,” Wright continues. “You’ll end up getting a six pack because you’re going to do that anyway when you work out, but the way that you train isn’t targeting that specifically. MIRA’s gym will help target all of the body’s intricate systems for compound movement, allowing the body to move fluidly.”
StretchLab will offer the public its franchised wellness concept of assisted stretching services out of one of MIRA’s four street-level retail spaces. StretchLab’s highly trained Flexologists offer a variety of stretching services, including a 25-minute one-on-one stretch concentrating on a client’s specific stretching needs or a 50-minute one-on-one deep stretch that covers all major muscle groups.
“StretchLab will serve MIRA’s residents as the perfect complement to their workouts in the Jay Wright-designed gym, while at the same time providing a valuable service for the public,” says DeeDee Schroder, owner of San Francisco’s first StretchLab location.
Sales of spacious one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums and townhouses at the 400-foot luxury condominium community are underway. In addition to a fitness center, other amenities at MIRA will include a courtyard, rooftop deck, private dining and lounge, children’s playroom, conference room, dog washing station, valet parking for 340 cars with electric vehicle charging stations, electric car share, bicycle parking, and approximately 10,000 square feet of retail at street level. Inside, bay windows in every residence offer sweeping views and create a dynamic façade that will transform the neighborhood with Studio Gang’s groundbreaking, forward-thinking architecture.
MIRA offers a new, fresh, and forward-thinking take on luxury living in San Francisco. Conveniently located steps from the Embarcadero at the corner of Spear and Folsom, MIRA comprises 392 modern residences and bold, iconic architecture by Studio Gang. Each home features fanning bay windows and striking, sweeping views of the City or the Bay, and residents have access to amenities such as a courtyard, rooftop decks, private dining and lounge, children’s playroom, business and conference room, and a Jay Wright-designed fitness center.
