SummerHill Housing Group Names Douglas L. McDonald SummerHill Apartment Communities President

SAN RAMON, Calif. – SummerHill Housing Group, the umbrella organization for SummerHill Homes, an award-winning residential builder, and SummerHill Apartment Communities, an apartment, mixed-use infill rental housing developer, today announced that Douglas L. McDonald has been promoted to President of SummerHill Apartment Communities. 

SummerHill Apartment Communities recently completed construction and is in the process of leasing up two apartment communities totaling 373 units in Pasadena (Los Angeles County) and Burlingame (San Mateo County), California. The company is under construction on four apartment communities in the San Francisco Bay Area totaling 967 units in the cities of Milpitas, Mountain View, Santa Clara and South San Francisco. The company is also in the entitlement process on 10 apartment communities in California and Washington totaling over 2,800 units located in the cities of Bellevue, Burlingame, Carlsbad, Milpitas, Pasadena and Santa Clara.

We know that he will continue to be a great asset to this company in his role as President of SummerHill Apartment Communities.”

As the new President of SummerHill Apartment Communities, McDonald is directly responsible for land acquisition, entitlements, design/construction, asset management, asset disposition and capital markets. McDonald has been with SummerHill for nearly 20 years. Before assuming the role of President, McDonald was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for SummerHill Apartment Communities and Chief Financial Officer for SummerHill Homes. As CFO, he secured nearly $2 billion in construction debt and equity capital. Prior to joining SummerHill Homes, McDonald was Manager of Strategy and Business Architecture for consulting firm Accenture in San Francisco. McDonald was also Division Controller for Pulte Homes and Supervising Senior Accountant for KPMG Peat Marwick, both of Charlotte, North Carolina. 

McDonald holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Finance and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. McDonald also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan, where he graduated with distinction and received the annual Innovation Award.
