Former Director of Sustainability at BCCI Construction to Add Depth to Firm’s Sustainability Practice
SAN FRANCISCO – September 3, 2013 – Cassidy Turley, a leading commercial real estate services provider in the U.S., announced today that Alex Spilger has joined the firm’s Project & Development Services team in Northern California as Senior Vice President. In this role, Mr. Spilger will be responsible for leading the firm’s Northern California sustainability practice, including managing LEED projects as well as various energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
Mr. Spilger will report to Jason Schlutt, LEED AP, Managing Director of Cassidy Turley’s Project & Development Services in Northern California. He also will work closely with Jim Arce, Senior Managing Director, who leads Cassidy Turley’s Property Management, account management and investor services business development in the Western U.S.

Mr. Spilger currently serves as the President and Founder of GreenStep, an educational firm based in Fairfax, CA, that has taught over 300 green building workshops to more than 5,000 industry professionals while building strong partnerships with local USGBC Chapters across the country.

Mr. Spilger has worked on more than 75 diverse green building projects, managing the LEED process for clients such as Google, Skype, Salesforce.com and the Wharton School of Business, among others. His project achievements include the first LEED Platinum Major Renovation project on the west coast, the first LEED CI Platinum project in California and one of the first projects to attempt the prestigious Living Building Challenge. In addition to his project work, he has lectured at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Sustainable Building Advisors Program and developed curriculum for UC Berkeley where he teaches a six-week green building project management course.
He is an active member of USGBC-NCC and serves on the San Francisco Mayor’s Task Force for Green Leasing. He is also founding board member of GreenLaces.org, a non-profit committed to leveraging the visibility and influence of athletics to create positive change for the planet. Mr. Spilger is a LEED Accredited Professional with specialties in BD+C, ID+C and EBOM, Certified Green Building Professional, AIA Continuing Education Provider, HERS Rater and holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UCLA.
