Architect Christopher Naughton Joins RATCLIFF

Emeryville, Calif. – Christopher Naughton, AIA, a specialist in the intelligent design of healthcare facilities and an advocate for patients and families in healthcare settings, has joined RATCLIFF, architects serving healthcare, academic, and civic clients throughout the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. His role is Senior Medical Planner.

Naughton comes to RATCLIFF from SmithGroupJJR, where he was principal and senior planner for facilities including St. Luke’s Hospital and Cathedral Hill Hospital in San Francisco. Also with SmithGroup, he provided the master plan for campuses including the Veteran’s Administration of Palo Alto, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center of San Jose.

He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Buffalo, New York, and began his career in the 1980s as an intern with the firm I.M. Pei of New York, then with New York’s Dennis Jurrow Architects until accepting a position with Hansen Lind Meyer of Chicago. He was a healthcare designer for NBBJ in Columbus, Ohio, until relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1997 to join KMD as a senior healthcare planner.

Naughton is a public speaker and writer, addressing professional conferences on topics including integrated project delivery methods for healthcare, the next generation of NICU’s with families, staff and architects, and the necessity of integrating art into healthcare projects, particularly in pediatric settings. He is a contributing blogger for Healthcare Design Magazine, with recent articles discussing five “game changers” for healthcare planning and roadblocks towards a “net zero energy” hospital.
