New grocer to open in Palo Alto’s College Terrace Mixed-Use Center
PALO ALTO, Calif. (Dec. 7, 2020) Blox Ventures, LLC, a Silicon Valley-based investor and real estate operator, announced Real Produce International Market will open its 11,000-square-foot market at 501 Oxford Avenue in Palo Alto’s College Terrace neighborhood on December 18. This store is the grocer’s second after their initial location in San Jose.
“We have been committed to bringing a specialty grocer to the community, and we believe Real Produce Internationals offerings are exactly what our local neighbors here have been hoping for,” said Blox Ventures CEO Jason Oberman.
The family-owned Real Produce offers both organic and conventional groceries which, focusing on seasonal products, will rotate monthly. Committed to quality while conscious of price, their ethnic mix includes ingredients from European and Middle Eastern countries – as well as a Greek deli. That formula is how they grew competitively while neighbors of Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Costco at their San Jose location. Partners of the grocer team also operate separate wholesale produce distribution businesses in South San Francisco and Oakland.
“We are very excited to open here in this iconic Palo Alto location, and feel it will be a success for both us and the community,” said Khaled Taffi, Real Produce International owner and manager. “Real Produce has ambitious plans to expand our offerings that now include a deli, grab-and-go area, fresh flowers, and a coffee area — and become a ‘Real’ member of the neighborhood for years to come.”
Starting with the outdoor area along El Camino, patrons will find fruits and vegetables which can be browsed comfortably allowing for much of the shopping to be comfortably experienced outside and reducing the need for as many people in-store in the current public health climate. Inside, customers will find a selection of meats, organic fruits and vegetables, and international products. There will be daily fresh-baked breads, hot- and cold-prepared meals, as well as fresh-roasted coffee. Many of the recent local hires have come from former nearby employers like Facebook, which is no longer operating their café as their employees work from home.
Providing a market has been a pivotal amenity at this transit-oriented, mixed-use development project, which was built in 2016. The property benefits from its proximity to the area’s key innovation centers, adjacency to Stanford University, Stanford Research Park, a vibrant retail node, and a half mile to Caltrain.
The College Terrace First Republic Center at 2100 El Camino Real, is the third of recent investments in Palo Alto that principals from Blox Ventures have acquired — and one of the few in Palo Alto’s core that occupy a full city block. First Republic Bank remains the mixed-use property’s anchor office tenant.
