More than 2,400 new tech firms were created in the Bay Area during the last ten years, yet they only occupy 15% of the total tech-occupied office and R&D space. The older firms founded during previous economic cycles have generally proven their long-term sustainability and are believed to have the infrastructure in place able to withstand a possible market correction better than the newer firms, who will need to prove their staying power. San Francisco has the highest concentration of newer tech firms.
