City of San José Names Rosario Neaves as Director of Communications

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Rosario Neaves has been appointed as Director of Communications by City Manager Dave Sykes. In her new post with the City of San José, Neaves will report directly to Sykes, and will serve as spokesperson and primary media contact for the City administration.

Neaves brings nearly two decades of experience as a communications leader in both the public and private sectors. She comes to San José from her most recent role as the Director of Communications and Public Affairs at the San Antonio Housing Authority, one of the largest housing authorities in the nation. Her prior experience also includes working as Vice President at Fleishman-Hillard, a global communications firm that specializes in public relations, public affairs, marketing, media, and social content.

“After conducting a national recruitment, we found Rosario to be an insightful, articulate
communications leader and appreciated that her diverse experience will bring new insights to our communication programs,” said Sykes. “We look forward to having her creativity and communications leadership on our team.”

Neaves will oversee citywide communications and programs as well as a core team that manages the City’s website, public access channel (CivicCenter TV), videography, public records requests, and more.

Her experience with housing and other urban issues will make for a great addition to San José’s communications team. Neaves holds a bachelor of science degree in Mass Communication from Boston University. She joins the City of San José on November 6, 2017.
