Kathy Watanabe was unanimously appointed to fill Council Seat No. 6 until November 2016
At a Special Meeting held on Monday evening, March 7, 2016, the City Council unanimously appointed Kathy Watanabe to fill Council Seat No. 6 for the unexpired term of the former incumbent, November 2016.
A total of 17 applications were received for the selection through a public application and letter of interest process. With one applicant not present, the Council interviewed the remaining 16 applicants in the open and public meeting with the Mayor and Council asking a series of questions.
Citing affordable housing, homelessness and balanced development with open space as key issues, she offers over 13 years of community involvement with the City of Santa Clara, Santa Clara Unified School District and Rivermark Community. She is currently a member of the Charter Review Committee, President of the Santa Clara Sister Cities Association and has served as a Trustee of the Santa Clara Board of Library Trustees since 2008.
During her concluding remarks, Ms. Watanabe held up the March 8 Council and Authorities Concurrent Meeting Agenda packet and said, “I’m ready to go to work.”
Ms. Watanabe will officially be sworn-in during this evening’s Council meeting at 7 pm.
