Congratulations 2012 AIA San Francisco Design Awards Winners

San Francisco, CA (April 30, 2012) – The American Institute of Architects, San Francisco chapter (AIA San Francisco) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 AIA San Francisco Design Awards program. The winners were revealed and celebrated last week at a special gala held at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco. Craig Dykers, AIA, Senior Partner and Director at Snøhetta, led a lively evening as Master of Ceremonies.

Winners were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the built environment in the categories of Excellence in Architecture, Excellence in Interior Architecture, Energy + Sustainability, Historic Preservation, Unbuilt Design, and Special Achievement. Each award was divided into three subcategories—Honor, Merit, and Citation.

Winning projects are featured online at www.aiasf.org/awards and in the May/June issue of California Home + Design magazine.

All award-winning projects will also be on view at the AIA San Francisco | Center for Architecture + Design Gallery (130 Sutter Street, Suite 600, San Francisco) May 24 – July 19, 2012. WINNERS

The winner of the Architecture Award in the Honor category is Mark Cavagnero Associates for Community Foundation Santa Cruz County. The Merit recipients are AECOM for JELD-WEN Field Renovation and Mark Cavagnero Associates for ODC Theater Center. Matarozzi Pelsinger Design + Build for the Noriega Street Parklet, Haas Architecture for Triangle of the Squinches, and Ogrydziak / Prillinger Architects for Triskelion are the Citation winners.

In the Interior Architecture category, Merit awards went to Studio Sarah Willmer for Atlassian II Offices and Mark Cavagnero Associates for UC Berkeley’s Durant Hall. The Citation award winners are Aidlin Darling Design for Bar Agricole and jones | haydu for Coffee Bar (Montgomery Street).

In the Energy + Sustainability category, Leger Wanaselja Architecture received a Merit award for the McGee Salvage House. Citation awards were given to Noll & Tam Architects for YMCA-PG&E Teen Center and Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects for Branson Commons.

In the Historic Preservation category, Honor recipients include Mark Cavagnero Associates for the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, Paulett Taggart Architects + Tom Eliot Fisch for Golden Gate Valley Branch Library, and Mark Horton Architecture for House of Air. ELS Architecture and Urban Design received a Merit Award for Fresno City College’s Historic Old Administration Building, while a Citation award was given to EHDD Architecture for the Jeannik Mequet Littlefield Concert Hall at Mills College.

The winner of the Unbuilt Design award in the Honor category is Ogrydziak / Prillinger Architects for Dune. Diller Scofidio + Renfro / EHDD Architecture received a Merit award for Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive. Citation awards went to Leif Estrada and Jeremy Luebker (CCA students) for Peel 27 and Interstice Architects for Bay Remediation Site:1.

Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association, HOK (for Mid-Market re:News) and San Francisco Planning Department (for Pavement to Parks) were honored with Special Achievement awards.
