Fintech Startup Robinhood Moves into Sunset Magazine’s Former HQ in Menlo Park

In 2015, Sunset Publishing moved its headquarters to Oakland’s Jack London Square. Many Menlo Park residents have fond memories of the former Sunset Magazine site located at 85 Willow Road. The annual Sunset Open House event and test gardens brought great excitement to many visitors. Although this sentiment will never fade, the City of Menlo Park is happy to welcome our newest resident at 85 Willow Road, fintech Robinhood.

Robinhood is one of the newest companies revolutionizing the fintech, financial technology, market place. By offering their customers, an avenue to buy and sell U.S. listed stocks and ETFs with $0 commission, Robinhood seeks to provide access to the financial market to everyone. Robinhood provides users with the ability to invest in the stock market free of charge. Something their competitors do not currently offer. They have trimmed the high costs most brokerages pass along to their consumers. Their main interface is a user-friendly app downloadable on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Rolling out this year, they have plans to release a web-based platform to extend their accessibility. For more information about Robinhood’s story, please visit their website.

Willow Park comprises two unique single-story creative office buildings located on ten acres at the intersection of Middlefield Road and Willow Road in the Middlefield Corridor submarket of Menlo Park, close to downtown Palo Alto. Originally built in the 1950s as the headquarters for Sunset Magazine, a premier lifestyle publication now owned by Time, Inc., the property was designed by Cliff May, the originator of California ranch-style architecture, with large gardens designed by Thomas Church to showcase native West Coast flora. The buildings have been renovated over time and are equipped with indoor and outdoor kitchens, conference rooms with beautiful views of the grounds, and a variety of private and open office spaces. The project also features a wine cellar, fitness center, interior courtyards, covered walkways, and abundant outdoor collaborative areas.

Willow Park is a 10-15 minute walk or a short drive from the vibrant and amenity-rich downtowns of both Menlo Park and Palo Alto, each city offering a Caltrain station. Willow Road provides easy access to U.S. Highway 101, with direct connections to Route 84/the Dumbarton Bridge and Highway 92/ the Hayward-San Mateo Bridge.
