Fremont Appoints New Community Development Director

Fremont City Manager Mark Danaj announced the appointment of Dan Schoenholz as Community Development Director for the City of Fremont. Schoenholz has been serving as Fremont’s Interim Community Development Director since May 2018, when Community Development Director Jeff Schwob retired.

Schoenholz’s career with the City of Fremont began October 1, 1998 in the City Manager’s Office where he started as an administrative analyst. He then joined the Human Services Department where he rose to the position of deputy director. In 2006 Schoenholz joined the Community Development Department as a special project manager leading the City’s General Plan update effort before promoting to deputy director of community development in 2011. Recent notable projects he oversaw included the installation of 1.5 MW (megawatts) of solar carports at City facilities and a $9.1 million energy and water efficiency upgrade on City facilities. He has also led the City’s creation of several hundred units of affordable housing. Prior to coming to Fremont, Schoenholz was an environmental scientist with the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Port of Oakland.

I am confident Dan will continue his track record of exceptional service to the City of Fremont.”

Schoenholz earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley where he graduated with honors. As Fremont’s community development director, Schoenholz oversees the Planning, Building, Housing, Environmental Sustainability, and Code Enforcement divisions.
