San Francisco – Gensler, a global design firm, announced the promotion of Hao Ko, AIA LEED to principal in its San Francisco office.
Ko has been a design director at Gensler for the past eight years, in which time he has been the regional practice area leader for commercial office buildings. Ko recently completed the Executive Briefing Center for Hewlett-Packard in Menlo Park, and is currently working on the new 500,000 square foot headquarters building for NVIDIA in Santa Clara, which redefines how an office building supports the work and culture of a company founded on innovation. In addition, Ko has completed the design of a new 33-story headquarters tower for PNC Bank in Pittsburgh, which has ambitions to be “the Worlds Greenest Highrise Building.” Expected to be completed in Q3 of 2015, The Tower at PNC Plaza looks to set a new global benchmark for high performing office buildings, including design solutions that support workplace performance and energy reduction. The development of a complex “breathable façade” and integration of a “solar chimney” allows the building to operate in a passive, natural ventilation mode more than 40% of the time.
“Hao is an extraordinary design talent and a tremendous addition to our regional leadership team,” said Peter Weingarten, director of Gensler’s architectural practice for the Northwest Region. “He brings a strong commitment to sustainability and belief in the power of design to impact the human spirit which is reflected in the elegance of his work and the admiration of our clients.”
Ko has also helped Gensler expand its reach into new regions, and has done extensive work in China. Most notably, he helped craft the vision for the Shanghai Tower project, an ambitious development that will be the tallest building in Asia, and led a 40-person design team for a 7.1 million square foot mixed-use casino resort hotel in Macau, China.
