San Francisco — HGA is pleased to announce that Dan Rectenwald, AIA, ACHA, has been appointed the Healthcare Practice Group Leader for the San Jose and San Francisco offices. Rectenwald brings considerable expertise to add to the firm’s successful practice in Northern California, positioning the firm for continued growth in the region.
“Demonstrating an adept ability to lead and creatively solve problems, Dan has been an integral part of HGA and the growth of our Healthcare practice for several decades,” said Principal and Healthcare Market Sector Leader Kurt Spiering, FAIA, ACHA. “His expertise in healthcare design and planning, coupled with his client-focused research, puts Dan, and HGA, in a great position to continue to expand our national impact.”
For the past 27 years, Rectenwald has served the firm in multiple roles, from Principal and Healthcare Practice Group Leader in Minneapolis to COO. His career with the firm began with a specialty imaging project at the University of California San Francisco Parnassus campus. Since then, he has been involved with many other high-profile clients, including Stanford Health Care, University of California Davis, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Mayo Clinic, and more. He recently led the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford project as Principal-in-Charge for the master planning, programming, design, and documentation phases.
As HGA’s COO from 2013 to early 2019, Rectenwald oversaw the day-to-day operations of the firm’s design and business strategies. He led HGA’s national expansion through four office relocations and three strategic acquisitions, including the 2105 acquisition of the San Jose corporate interior design firm Reel Grobman.
Rectenwald’s extensive experience in project leadership, operations, and strategic growth will bring a keen knowledge and understanding to this new role for the firm. At the heart of his approach is collaboration—bringing research insights, creative team members, and clients together to shape responsive outcomes and achieve their goals.
“Over the last three decades, pioneering leaders have expanded HGA Healthcare in Northern California into a well-respected and future-looking practice,” said Rectenwald. “I’m excited to build on that momentum, leveraging my experience in the region and as an organizational leader to support its positive trajectory. There are so many innovative and forward-looking clients in this region; I look forward to working with them and helping advance their visions.”
