Hopkins & Carley Attorney Erik Khoobyarian Appointed as Presiding Officer of San Jose’s Civil Service Commission

SAN JOSE, Jan. 12, 2015 – Hopkins & Carley announces that Erik Khoobyarian was appointed by the San Jose City Council to the Civil Service Commission. Serving a four-year term, Khoobyarian will serve as the presiding officer for all hearings held before the commission and will be responsible for making recommendations to the council and the city manager and conducting investigations concerning the administration of personnel in the classified service.

Khoobyarian is a 2010 graduate of the San Jose Leadership Council’s Community Leadership San Jose program. He formerly served on the Board of Trustees of Opera San Jose and Board of Directors of Inn Vision the Way Home. Khoobyarian received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law (2003) and his B.A. in interdisciplinary studies and political science from American University (1998).

About the Civil Service Commission
As established by the City Charter, the Civil Service Commission reviews and recommends changes to the civil service rules and appoints members to the City Council Salary Setting Commission. The commission may also act as an appellate body for certain personnel decisions affecting City employees. In addition, the commission is advisory to the City Council regarding civil service rules, as well as to the city manager and any other appointive power regarding personnel administrative matters.
