SAN FRANCISCO – MacFarlane Partners, a real estate development and investment management company that specializes in investments that promote smart growth, urban revitalization and sustainability, has promoted Dirk Hallemeier to managing director and president.
Hallemeier has held real estate investment and development-related positions with MacFarlane Partners for more than 13 years, most recently as managing director, investments. In his new role, he will be responsible for sourcing and negotiating prospective investments, and will oversee the construction and development process of properties developed directly by the firm. He also will help build and maintain the firm’s strategic relationships with its joint venture partners. Hallemeier replaces Greg Vilkin.

A licensed professional engineer in California, Hallemeier has 20 years of real estate, construction and civil engineering experience, during which he has been involved in the development, redevelopment and management of urban properties from the perspective of an investor, developer, general contractor and engineer.
With MacFarlane Partners, Hallemeier has negotiated and closed investments in more than $1.2 billion in urban development projects, including Bay Street Emeryville, a mixed-use urban village built on a former brownfield site near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge; the office component of @ First, a mixed-use business park in San Jose; Venn on Market, a 113-unit apartment community in the heart of San Francisco; and multiple phases of The Crossing | San Bruno, a master-planned community built on former U.S. Navy property near San Francisco International Airport.
Prior to joining MacFarlane Partners, Hallemeier served as a structural engineer for Degenkolb Engineers, a structural design and engineering firm, where he focused on seismic retrofits for clients such as the State of California, Kaiser Permanente and the University of California, Berkeley. He also worked as a project manager for Ernst & Young, managing construction projects for third-party clients.
Hallemeier is active in the Urban Land Institute. He earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees in civil engineering from Cornell University.
