Roseville Calif., April 16, 2018 – McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (McCarthy), a national construction firm, is pleased to announce the relocation of its Sacramento Business Unit office to 3721 Douglas Boulevard in Roseville. The company is occupying approximately 17,000 sq. ft. of completely reconstructed space created by design firm HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA). The move reflects McCarthy’s continued growth in the Northern California construction market, which includes key industry sectors such as healthcare, science and technology, laboratories, educational, parking structure and municipal facilities.
“Similar to how the industry has evolved how work is done, our goal with our new office is to “build in” integration and iteration in a highly collaborative environment,” said Aaron Alhady, McCarthy’s vice president of business development. “The new space reflects McCarthy’s culture, encouraging the formation of high-performing teams through interaction and the promotion of the “team” while addressing how we can best serve our clients. The result is a work environment that emphasizes safe and productive exchanges which embrace the notion that these conversations lead to new and exciting ideas.”
The new office occupies half of the ground floor of the building and is designed to mirror the collaborative and learning concepts seen in the latest project delivery methods such as design-build and IPD (integrated project delivery). The floor plan consists of an open configuration designed to maximize group interaction and collaboration within and across teams. Training rooms and a large “big” room offer space for teams to gather to discuss projects and share best practices. Each space features writeable walls to encourage iteration and sharing of ideas. A dedicated area that houses the company’s cutting-edge technology, such as virtual reality (VR) and 3D printing equipment, is located in the front of the office. Walls made of glass allow for clients, guests, and other staff members to easily see and experience an enhanced “preview” of projects and how teams work. Transparent elements infused throughout the office offer organic opportunities to continuously learn and refine approaches and best practices.
“The construction industry is changing and we needed to build an environment that drives a culture ready to embrace and lead that change,” said Ryan Heeter, McCarthy’s Northern Pacific executive vice-president. “We utilized a design process by which we gathered feedback from every member of the team and used that input to drive the design. Because of this, the team was immediately able to utilize the space as it was intended the day we moved in and within weeks, we saw a transformation in how we collaborate.”
To accomplish the forward-looking office plan, McCarthy engaged HGA from the outset for a fully integrated process under the idea of developing a design that projects client-first thinking. HGA served as an integral component throughout the course of the project, from assisting with site selection to the entire buildout of the reconstructed office, including final furniture selection.
“Our relationship with McCarthy and their office project is rooted in partnership and collaboration,” said Heather Kampa, HGA’s interior design lead and associate vice president. “We created a shared ownership right from the beginning by helping McCarthy build their creative confidence in order to develop successful strategies and a final solution. By listening to their needs and goals, we were able to capture what is meaningful to them and lead them through the process from original insight to enduring impact within their new and improved space. We specifically integrated the workplace strategy to have neighborhoods within the space, with a balance of workplace environments ranging from community, collaborative, impromptu and private zones. This captured the evolving workplace environment that reflects McCarthy’s culture and serve their clients in innovation and productivity.”
