Ross, CA (January 12, 2017) – Meridian Commercial President Matt Brown announced today that he and Andy Kaufman with Meridian Commercial represented Woodlands Store Inc. in the sale of a Ross community fixture – the historic Ross Grocery.
More commonly known as Eddie’s for Eddie Ahrens, who owned and operated the store from 1946 until 2010.The property traded for $2,395,000 for the 1,200-square-foot store and the 1,800-square-foot home on the same parcel located at 16 Ross Common in Ross.
The Marin Independent Journal reported that Ross locals Matt Nemer and Nick Mettler leased the space from the buyer and plans to renovate the retail space and operate the corner grocery as Ross Landing (www.rosslanding.com).
The Marin IJ reported that they gradually are phasing in new products and expanding local offerings, starting with Equator coffee and baked goods from Taste Kitchen in Fairfax. Renovations will begin in summer 2017 and will include new floors, a high-top communal table, window seating and beer and wine on tap.
Local resident Don Santa, owner of Woodlands Markets in nearby Kentfield, bought the store in 2010 from the Ahrens family when Don Ahrens, the then 55-year-old son of founder Eddie Ahrens, decided to retire. Ross Grocery opened more than 85 years ago originally by Pop Mordecai. Eddie Ahrens started working as a clerk in the store beginning in 1932 and bought the real estate and business when he returned home from World War II in 1946.
