Ratcliff announces the promotion of PATRICIA ALARCÓN, YOUNG KO, BEN LEVI, LUIS RAMIREZ and KEVIN THORNTON to senior associate of the firm and of MICHELLE NIP and NEELANJANA SEN to associate. Architect PATRICIA ALARCÓN, AIA (Senior Associate) has more than 20 years of experience and is accomplished in diverse project types, from private residential and multifamily affordable housing to educational and commercial projects. She currently specializes in academic and civic projects, where she effectively leads project stakeholders in the visioning, programming and planning of new and renovated facilities. Selected projects include the new Education Center in Brentwood for the Contra Costa County Community College District, the Physical Sciences and Engineering Center for Foothill College (honor award, AIA and SCUP); the Library Renovation for Foothill College; the Colma Town Hall Historic Renovation; and the Center for Arts and Sciences at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo. Alarcón holds a Master of Architecture from UC Berkeley and a B. A. in Architecture from Washington University, St. Louis. She joined Ratcliff in 2008 and was named an Associate in 2013.
YOUNG CHAN KO (Senior Associate) joined Ratcliff upon graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1996 and has extensive experience in the technical development and production of contract documents for major healthcare facilities, university projects and commercial buildings. Selected projects include NorthBay Medical Center, Fairfield’s 100,000 sf expansion, currently under construction; John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek, various projects; ValleyCare Health System, Pleasanton, various projects; St. Mary’s Medical Center/Dignity Health, San Francisco, OR suite renovation, and Alameda Hospital, Alameda, seismic retrofit. Ko holds a B. Architecture from Cal Poly and was named an associate of the firm in 2010.
Architect BENJAMIN LEVI, LEED AP (Senior Associate) has more than 20 years of experience on project types from universities, schools and civic to healthcare and transportation through the US and Europe. Selected projects include the multi-phase addition and renovation of the University of California Berkeley School of Law (Honor Award, AIA East Bay); Hastings College of Law Building Replacement Study for the Department of General Services; and various projects for healthcare clients including St. Mary’s Medical Center/Dignity Health, San Francisco; California Pacific Medical Center/Sutter Health, San Francisco; and Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center, Martinez. Levi holds a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Zagreb, Croatia. He joined the firm in 2007 and was named an associate in 2011.
Architect LUIS RAMIREZ (Senior Associate) has more than 23 years of experience emphasizing design and construction documents and construction administration on project types from healthcare and schools to commercial and food service facilities. Selected projects include project manager for the Morris Hyman Critical Care Pavilion for Washington Hospital, Fremont, and the Expansion and Remodel of John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek. Ramirez is a graduate of Phoenix Institute of Technology. He joined the firm in 2007 and was named an associate in 2012.
Architect KEVIN M. THORNTON (Senior Associate) has more than 25 years of experience in project types from academic and corporate to institutional laboratories. Selected projects include the Physical Sciences and Engineering Center for Foothill College (honor award, AIA and SCUP); the multi-phase addition and renovation of the University of California Berkeley School of Law (Honor Award, AIA East Bay); Center for the Arts and Sciences, Junipero Serra High School; and the Student Wellness Center at San Jose State University. Thornton holds a Master in Architecture from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an A. B. in Architecture from UC Berkeley. He joined the firm in 2004 and was named associate in 2009.
MICHELLE NIP (Associate); has more than 10 years of experience in the field. She is currently job captain responsible for a number of healthcare projects at campuses including Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and Mills Peninsula Hospital for Sutter Health. Her knowledge of agency requirement and approvals is highly valued by project stakeholders. Nip holds a B.A. Architecture from UC Berkeley and joined the firm in 2013.
Architect NEELANJANA SEN, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C (Associate) with eight years’ of experience has quickly gained recognition as an award-winning project design and planner on a variety of project types. At Ratcliff she is focused primarily on healthcare projects, including an outpatient surgery center for Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System; Stanford Cancer Center South Bay for Stanford Health Care; and the Morris Hyman Critical Care Pavilion for Washington Hospital Healthcare System (medical planning). Sen holds a Master of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Pine Manor College. She joined the firm in 2013.
