Santana Row Officially Opens New 1300-space Garage and First New Public Plaza in Years

San Jose (May 2, 2019) — Federal Realty Investment Trust announced the opening today, May 2, of two new features for its Santana Row shop-work-play destination in San Jose: a new parking garage adding more than 1,300 spaces and a 21,000 square-foot signature plaza that anchors Santana Row as part of its 700 Santana Row development project.

“It’s now easier than ever to park at Santana Row, and the open public plaza adds yet another amenity for enjoying shopping, dining, working and living here,” said Jan Sweetnam, Senior Vice President – West Coast Chief Operating Officer of Federal Realty.

Shoppers and visitors to Santana Row can enter the new Hatton Public Parking Garage at the corner of Hatton Street and Olsen Drive. The parking garage is located behind Federal Realty’s new 700 Santana Row office-retail development which is substantially complete. Its upper floors will be occupied later this year by tech firm Splunk, which is taking the expansion space in addition to current offices at 500 Santana Row.  

Reflecting the growing popularity of electric vehicles and California’s pursuit of oil-independence, the Hatton Public Parking Garage has 50 electric-vehicle (EV) parking spaces with chargers.  Adding to Santana Row’s existing 84 charging stations to the 50 at Hatton, there are now 134 EV spaces. 

Some 61 of those spaces are Tesla superchargers, located in the Winchester Garage near the Tesla showroom.

“The world-class urban plaza also opening today is an entirely new experience-space we think people will really enjoy,” added Sweetnam.

“This plaza at 700 Santana Row anchors the west end of The Row, with creative spaces for visitors, residents and workers to hang out, recharge or just enjoy an afternoon.”  

The plaza features fountains, benches, and landscaping including a large re-planted oak tree that had been moved from the site during construction and should fully revitalize this summer.

Santana Row includes 50 shops, 30 restaurants, 9 personal service businesses, 615 rental apartments, 219 residential condominiums and the 215-room boutique Hotel Valencia.
