Target Corporation has leased 21,000 square feet of retail space for another regional small-format store at the new Main Street Cupertino mixed-use project in Cupertino, CA. Target will serve as the project’s retail anchor and is expected to open its new Silicon Valley locale in October 2016. Approximately one-sixth the size of its normal stores, Target’s smaller stores offer grab-and-go sandwiches and salads, fresh produce, toiletries, beauty supplies and more, and also feature access to prescription and over-the-counter medications. Located along main thoroughfare Stevens Creek Boulevard (at Wolfe Road), the Main Street project is centrally located near the in-development Apple 2 campus and existing, surrounding offices; Vallco Mall; and residential areas. Main Street Cupertino is owned by Sand Hill Property Co. Matt Kircher with Cushman & Wakefield’s Retail Services group in Burlingame represented the tenant in the transaction.
Notably, Target also operates a full-sized store of approximately 130,000 square feet a little further north along Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino as well as a few other smaller-formatted urban stores throughout the region in the cities of San Francisco and Berkeley. Target’s first small store opened last year in Minneapolis, and the San Francisco store was its first reach outside that area. Mr. Kircher also represented Target in the San Francisco and Berkeley transactions.
