San Ramon, Calif. – (August 23, 2019) – Authentic Italian-inspired gelato, popular women’s fashion and a program that introduces children to the wonders of music are three of the newest tenants at City Center Bishop Ranch. Center officials announced the openings of Madewell, Music Together® and Gio Gelati at the 300,000-square-foot shopping, dining and entertainment destination.
At GIO Gelati, owners Guido Mastrapaolo from Pesaro and Patrizia Pasqualetti from Orvieto, Italy, marry traditional Italian flavors and contemporary tastes to surprise guests every day with their gelato selections: from always available classics to a changing variety of traditional creamy, dairy-free and vegan offerings.
Pasqualetti is a well-known gelato chef in Italy for Gelateria Pasqualetti, a family-run gelato enterprise dating back 40 years. She and Mastrapaolo moved to San Francisco in 2018 and brought with them a coveted third-generation gelato recipe. The original GIO Gelati is in San Francisco; Mastrapaolo and Pasqualetti said they chose City Center Bishop Ranch for their second location after a careful search.
“We’re proud to join the City Center adventure while adding our own flavor to a location that already radiates true Italian flare,” Mastrapaolo said, referring to Renzo Piano, the internationally acclaimed Italian architect whose firm designed City Center. “We wanted to bring color to an often gray world and allow East Bay residents to enjoy life in a simpler way, through our homemade gelato.”
Their authentic gelato — whether traditionally classic or in unique flavor combinations — is made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that are the best of Italy and California. If the ingredients aren’t local to California, they come from Italy. Classic flavors include: Capriccio with hazelnuts, chocolate cream and wafers; Stracciatella with milk, cream, sugar, and chocolate chips; and Milk & Figs made with milk, sugar, cream, Madagascar vanilla extract and figs caramelized in muscovado sugar.
Also new to the center is Madewell, the popular fashion brand offering premium denim, women’s clothing and a wide range of accessories. Established in 2006, the brand today operates 133 stores throughout the country and is located between Anthropologie and Sephora at City Center.
City Center also welcomes Music Together®, an internationally recognized early childhood music program whose mission is to make the world a better place by making it more musical. Babies, toddlers, preschoolers and older kids up to and including age 7 may participate, regardless of their learning style or stage of development. Each weekly class includes music activities especially created for young children, led by a trained teacher and supported by take home materials.
“Music learning supports all learning: language, motor skills, social interaction and parent-child bonding, and it’s never too early to introduce children to its wonders,” said Rowena Morgan, director of Music Together. “Music Together makes it easy and fun for parents and children to tap into even the youngest child’s creativity and self expression. Our mission is to make the world a better place by making it more musical, and we’re proud to enlist the community of San Ramon in that mission at our new location at City Center.”
