Valerio Dewalt Train Promotes Joe Lawton to Principal

Chicago, IL — Valerio Dewalt Train has promoted Joe Lawton to the position of principal, announced founding principal Joe Valerio, FAIA. Lawton joined the firm in 2010 and in 2012 founded Media Objectives, an experiential design studio of 15 staff members in Valerio Dewalt Train’s Chicago and San Francisco offices. Lawton oversees the studio as well as all marketing and communication efforts for Valerio Dewalt Train.

His completed work includes Glassdoor’s Chicago office; the Vue53 Residences in Chicago; the downtown wayfinding strategy for Mount Prospect, Illinois; the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Donor Wall; and multiple projects for eBay around the country. Current work includes various environmental graphic projects around the globe for Adobe; the brand identity for a Greystar-managed residence in Tampa, Florida; and workplace design guidelines for Glassdoor.

Lawton is cochair for the Chicago chapter of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) and was cochair for the SEGD’s Annual Conference 2015. In 2016, he presented at the SEGD Annual Conference on place-making and wayfinding in Miami. He has served as the communications manager for AIA Milwaukee and the graphic editor of AIA Forward Journal. He has presented at the State Capitol of Wisconsin and at the American Institute of Architecture Students national conference on efforts to revitalize urban inner cities of America and abroad. In July 2018, at the Chicago Design Museum, he will be a featured panelist on the topic of integrating art into the public landscape.

He was recently awarded Interior Design’s HiP Awards 2018 for graphics and branding and will be profiled in Metropolis’s July/August 2018 issue. He has also been a featured designer on HGTV’s White Room Challenge. He received both a bachelor of science degree in architectural studies and a certificate in urban planning from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2006.
