Renowned real estate attorney honored during the Stanford Real Estate Hall of Fame Banquet at Stanford
PALO ALTO – November 16, 2015 – Last Thursday, Stanford Professionals in Real Estate (SPIRE) and its 1600 members inducted Fred Allen, a founding and senior partner at Allen Matkins, into the 2015 Stanford Real Estate Hall of Fame. Fred was honored during the Stanford Real Estate Hall of Fame Banquet, held at the Arrillaga Alumni Center – McCaw Hall on the Stanford Campus. Also inducted was Peter Bedford, owner of Bedford Investments. The Stanford Real Estate Hall of Fame, now in its 5th year, recognizes pioneers in the real estate industry whose impact and legacy have brought acclaim to them and Stanford University.
“[Fred] will go down as a lawyer that people look back at and aspire to be like,” said John Cushman, Chairman of Cushman & Wakefield. “And he’s not giving up anytime soon.”
Fred Allen is one of the premier real estate and finance attorneys in America. He is a founder and senior partner of Allen Matkins, a full-service real estate and business law firm with approximately 200 attorneys in five offices in California. For more than 45 years, Fred has been counsel to many of the nation’s most prominent development and investment companies in connection with hundreds of successful major projects in California, Hawaii, and throughout the country, Asia, the Pacific Rim and Mexico. Fred is best known for his ability to creatively analyze legal and business issues and to quarterback ongoing projects to effectively manage the delivery of specialized legal services.

Fred is an active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the Real Estate Roundtable, Washington, D.C., Hoover Institution Board of Overseers, Stanford Professionals in Real Estate (SPIRE) Board, Stanford Real Estate Council (SREC), and numerous other professional, civic and charitable organizations.
After graduating from Stanford University in 1961 (B.A. History), Fred served as a naval officer aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ranger (CVA-61) in the Pacific. He received his law degree from the University of California Hastings College of Law.

Peter Bedford has been in the commercial real estate business for over 50 years. He was responsible for the acquisition, ownership, development and management of approximately 40 million square feet of industrial, office, and retail properties, as well as land in 22 states.
From 1992 to 2006 he served as Chairman and CEO of Bedford Property Investors, a NYSE REIT. Peter is active in the Stanford community, particularly within the Hoover Institution where he has served as an Overseer since 1981 and as Chairman of the Board of Overseers from 2005 to 2008. Peter and his wife, Kirsten, have contributed numerous pieces of art to the Cantor Center of Art at Stanford.
Fred and Peter join prior Stanford Real Estate Hall of Fame inductees in creating a great legacy in real estate: Don Koll and William Wilson (2011), Henry Segerstrom and Malin Burnham (2012), Buzz McCoy and Bill Tooley (2013) and Bob Lowe and Tad Taube (2014).
