Renovation of Senior Living Residence in Palm Desert, CA Wins Best 50+ Remodeled Project
San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco office of leading international design and architecture firm Perkins Eastman is pleased to announce that Atria Hacienda — a senior residence offering independent living, assisted living and memory support in Palm Desert, California — received a Gold Award from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), in its 2013 Best of 50+ Housing Awards competition. The project won for Best 50+ Remodeled Project.
The Awards, which honor innovation and excellence in the design, development, lifestyle and marketing of housing for older consumers, were presented on January 23 at the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. Gold was also awarded to Perkins Eastman’s C.C. Young – The Overlook, in Dallas, Texas, for Best 50+ Independent Living Community.
Perkins Eastman’s renovation of Atria Hacienda was inspired by the 1950s Palm Desert culture of high glamour and Hollywood, and introduced a number of new amenities including a cocktail lounge, theater, bistro with demonstration kitchen, fitness center, and full-service salon and spa. The renovation also transformed underutilized spaces into inviting, common-use areas that support Atria’s memory care environment. Upgrades included a new entryway; connectivity to a program-filled courtyard and activity garden with a water-saving fountain and wandering paths; indoor/ outdoor wayfinding; new wellness activity areas; and a comfortable, home-like memory support neighborhood.
Following Perkins Eastman’s renovation, Atria has enjoyed greater market receptivity and less marketing costs per rental, and according to a post-occupancy evaluation, resident satisfaction is the highest it’s been in years. Consequently, Atria Hacienda has been transformed from an average market competitor, compared to other Southern California senior facilities, to one of the top market performers.
NAHB’s jury panel consisted of 16 industry experts within the active adult, service-enriched, marketing and lifestyle segments of the 50+ housing industry, all of whom spent a full week evaluating entries from across the country.
