San Jose, Calif. (April 16, 2015) – The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), the nation’s largest professional trade group of general contractors, awarded Blach Construction Company its prestigious Construction Safety Excellence Award at its annual convention last month in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dan Rogers, chief operating officer, Mike Holland, director of environmental health and safety and Chad Tyson, general superintendent, were on hand to receive the award.
The AGC Construction Safety and Excellence Awards (CSEA) recognize companies with exceptional safety and loss prevention programs and those that excel at safety performance. This year Blach Construction placed third in the builder division with 250,000 to 450,000 work hours. Blach is one of only two northern California contractors to win the 2015 CSEA in the builder division. This was the second time that Blach was nominated to compete at the national level in the past five years.
“Blach is honored to be recognized by the AGC of America for its efforts to make safety and health a way of life for its employees,” commented Holland, Blach’s director of environmental health and safety. “We are grateful for, and want to recognize, the continued support and active involvement of Blach’s trade partners and their contribution to the exceptional safety demonstrated on Blach’s projects.”
To qualify for the CSEA, each applicant was reviewed for its commitment to safety, occupational health management and risk control. Applicants were also required to complete application forms and submit to local AGC Chapters. The AGC (www.agc.org) selected Blach as a finalist for the national award last winter. As a finalist, Blach competed with other top contractors at the AGC National Convention by presenting to five judges and more than 100 contractors.
Previously, Blach also placed third in the national CSEA in 2010. The AGC of California also awarded Blach the first place Construction Safety and Excellence Award in its size category in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014. Last year the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (better known as Cal- OSHA) awarded Blach and one of its largest projects the elite Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) recognition. Fewer than 20 contractors in California have been granted VPP status (in 2015).
