The City Wants to Know… What’s Your Vision for San Mateo?

San Mateo, CA — Two upcoming Vision Workshops signal a major opportunity for the community to help guide future growth, conservation and change in San Mateo over the next 20 years.

The public is encouraged to attend one of these important community meetings on Saturday, November 3 and partake in the update of the City’s General Plan. This multi-year planning project focuses on important topics including infrastructure improvements, circulation, economic sustainability, land use, open space and more.

As the Bay Area economy continues to grow and interest in San Mateo remains strong, the General Plan Update team is actively seeking to hear from the entire community about their vision for the City through the year 2040.

Workshop participants will work collaboratively with each other to draft and prioritize statements about topics such as traffic, housing affordability, sustainability, climate change adaptation, desired types of businesses, community amenities, and alternative transportation options such as walking, biking and transit. Statements from the workshops will be combined with ongoing input from the community and presented to the City Council-appointed General Plan Subcommittee at a public meeting in December.

In addition to the Subcommittee meetings and upcoming community events, anyone can learn about the General Plan Update project and provide input at any time at StriveSanMateo.org, the project website and mobile app. StriveSanMateo.org explains the role and authority of the General Plan, describes the different components of the project, offers a downloadable graphic schedule of the entire process, and includes regularly updated surveys and a calendar of events.
