SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., (October 5, 2015) — Fisher Development, Inc. (Fisher) announced today that it commenced demolition of the existing structure at 800 Presidio Avenue, the future home of the Booker T. Washington Community Service Center and Affordable Housing Development.
The 5-story, 68,000 square foot, mixed-use building will house a community center, gymnasium, parking, classrooms, youth radio, day care and 50 affordable dwelling units, half of which are dedicated to emancipated foster youth and the other half for residents qualified as low income or very low income.
“When that Hitachi ZAXIS350 excavator showed up at jobsite this morning, I’m sure it was a welcome site to the folks at Booker T who want their impressive new facility up and running to serve this very vulnerable population,” said Alex Fisher, President of Fisher Development. “It’s truly our pleasure to be working with such a dedicated group of professionals.”
Those professionals include the staff and board of Booker T. Washington Community Center, Equity Community Builders (the Developer), The John Stewart Company (managing the residential units), Perry Architects, the John Burton Foundation and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development.
