Fieldwork Brewing Company to Open Beer Garden at Bay Meadows

Popular Berkeley craft brewer joins Blue Bottle Coffee and Tin Pot Creamery at the growing urban village in Silicon Valley

San Mateo, CA – December 7, 2016 – Enjoying a pint of the finest local beer while brushing up on your bocce game is the next offering on tap at Bay Meadows in San Mateo. Owner Stockbridge Capital and developer Wilson Meany announced that Fieldwork Brewing Company of Berkeley will operate a 4,500 square-foot outdoor beer garden featuring communal seating, adjacent firepits, and leisure activities. Set to open in spring 2017, Fieldwork Brewing at Bay Meadows will offer a rotating selection of a dozen beers along with a menu of small bites and growlers to-go.

Fieldwork has built a reputation for finely crafted beers since opening its Berkeley brewery last year and is now featured prominently in taprooms across northern California. Fieldwork at Bay Meadows will be in a spacious garden environment designed by a collaboration between CMG Landscape Design, the group responsible for projects such as SF MOMA’s Sculpture Garden and Mint Plaza, and RadLab, a San Diego-based team known for its creative use of shipping containers in popup parks. Fieldwork joins artisanal purveyors Blue Bottle Coffee and Tin Pot Creamery to serve the thousands of residents, visitors and workers at this new mixed-use urban village. Matt Holmes and AJ Schrader of RetailWest represented both groups in the deal.

“What an opportunity for Fieldwork to bring our fresh beer to Silicon Valley, in a place that’s friendly for families, walkable, bike-able, and right near the Caltrain station,” said Fieldwork co-owner Barry Braden. “Fieldwork at Bay Meadows will be like a front yard to relax in with friends or co-workers; the perfect outdoor spot to enjoy our ever-changing list of fresh releases by the flight, the glass or fresh beer filled to-go.”

Fieldwork at Bay Meadows will be located adjacent to Station 4 – SurveyMonkey’s new headquarters – and across from Station 3, which will be partially occupied by tenant OpenText. The beer garden will be nestled amid a series of landscaped spaces and traditional streetfront retail on Delaware Street. Dubbed the neighborhood’s “social street” for its welcoming design, pop-up fitness options, mobile kiosks and potential for events, Delaware Street opens up to Bay Meadows’ Town Square.

“We’re very excited to welcome Fieldwork Brewing to our roster of neighborhood-serving retail at Bay Meadows—not only do they have an exceptional product with a huge following, Fieldwork also has a team of beer crafters that really care about nurturing a sense of community, which aligns perfectly with our own objectives,” said Janice Thacher, partner at Wilson Meany.

Retailers will also occupy two new mixed-use apartment buildings surrounding the Town Square, the central plaza that will boast an acclaimed sculpture by Danish artist Jeppe Hein. These apartments, The Russell and Quimby, feature 228 units of boutique, luxuriously appointed surroundings and begin leasing in January.

The pioneering transit-oriented Bay Meadows development is well underway with nearly 1500 residents in townhomes and apartments, the Nueva School serving high school students, and visitors regularly utilizing Bay Meadows’ 18 acres of parks and open space.

About Bay Meadows
Life in Motion
Bay Meadows was designed to give homeowners the luxury of pulling into their driveway on Friday evening and not have to drive again for the weekend. Whether they need groceries, want to enjoy a picnic in a gorgeous 12-acre park, plant heirloom tomatoes in the community garden, or hop on a train for a night out in San Francisco, residents can do it all car-free. They are also able to wake Monday morning and walk down the block to catch a train to an office in Silicon Valley, San Francisco or any destination served by Caltrain. Or, they can walk to work at the adjacent LEED-certified office buildings. Bay Meadows truly brings the concept of a “forwardly mobile” lifestyle to the Bay Area.

The Bay Meadows’ plan includes 1,150 units of housing, 780,000 square feet of LEED-certified office space, 40,000 square feet of retail and 18 acres of open space. The community’s Delaware Street is envisioned as a social hub, an intersection of work and play that inspires spontaneity and interaction. This urban village represents the new downtown-style and environmentally friendly living that residents and workers increasingly seek. For more information, visit baymeadows.com.
