GO-Biz and India State of Telangana to Sign MOU on Technology and Innovation

Expands on the Work at the Subnational Clean Energy Ministerial Event in San Francisco

San Francisco, Calif. – As part of the Subnational Clean Energy Ministerial (SubCEM) in San Francisco, the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) is signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Telangana India to establish a formal partnership between California’s Innovation Hubs (I-Hub) and Telangana’s Technology-Hub (T-Hub). The MOU, which is being signed by GO-Biz Director Panorea Avdis and the Secretary to the Government of Telangana, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Department Jayesh Ranjan, will help foster economic cooperation and economic development, facilitate joint industrial research and development through their respective innovation ecosystems and enhance business relationships and educational opportunities in areas such as renewable energy, cleantech, smart cities, water conservation, biotech and ag tech.

Background
Earlier this year, top officials from GO-Biz travelled to India to encourage the Indian government to sign Governor Brown’s Under 2 MOU to combat climate change and establish stronger economic relations with California’s 11th largest export destination. In 2015, California exports to India brought in almost $4.6 billion, making up 21.3 percent of the U.S. total. California exports to India more than doubled from 2009 to 2015.
