Hopkins & Carley Shareholder Dori Yob Elected Chair of San Jose Planning Commission

SAN JOSE, Jan. 20, 2015 – Hopkins & Carley announces that Shareholder Dori Yob was elected chair of the San Jose Planning Commission. After receiving a unanimous vote from the San Jose Planning Commission members, Yob will oversee the recommendation and implementation of policies that guide the development of San Jose toward the achievement of community goals.

Yob previously served as vice-chair of the San Jose Planning Commission. She was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2011 and reappointed in 2012, after receiving a unanimous vote from the mayor and city council. Yob is currently serving a four-year term on the Planning Commission, where she helps oversee the administration of long-range planning projects, such as the Envision San Jose 2040 General Plan, as well as the processing of land development applications in conformance with the city’s long-range planning goals.

In her practice, Yob represents a wide range of clients in land use, real estate and complex business matters. Her experience includes litigation on behalf of developers, individuals, real estate agents and brokers and groups of property owners. She possesses a wide range of skills as a business litigator, with experience handling disputes in other industries and settings, including financial institutions, construction and employment.

Yob is a member of the Junior League of San Jose, an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Yob previously served on the organization’s board of directors as Outreach Vice President and was honored with the Dorothy Bogen Farrington Award.

An active member of the Honorable William A. Ingram American Inn of Court, Yob is a member of ThirtyOne Women, a group dedicated to making a Notre Dame High School education available to girls from very low income families who attend Our Lady of Grace Nativity School. She was selected as a Northern California Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine for the last four years. Yob is a 2009 graduate of the San Jose Leadership Council’s Community Leadership program, which identifies emerging leaders and exposes them to a broad range of issues vital to the community. She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law (2003) and her B.A., magna cum laude, in justice studies and political science from Arizona State University (2000).
