Passenger Traffic Grows 7.1 Percent in November at Silicon Valley’s Airport

Strong Demand for Travel during Thanksgiving Holiday

San José, Calif., Dec. 29, 2014 – Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) passenger traffic increased by 7.1 percent in November 2014 compared to the same month last year. SJC served 770,286 departing and arriving passengers in November, for an overall calendar-year-to-date increase of 7.2 percent.

Passenger growth in November is attributed to increased demand for travel during the 12-day Thanksgiving air travel period, airlines reporting strong passenger loads overall, and new or expanded nonstop service as follows:

  • Alaska Airlines which inaugurated a daily flight to Salt Lake City in June, additional flights to Portland and Seattle, and more seats to Honolulu;
  •  Delta Air Lines with new service to Seattle in May; and
  • Southwest Airlines with more flights to Denver, Los Angeles, Orange County and Seattle.

“November marked another month of healthy passenger growth at Mineta San José International Airport as travelers chose convenience and reliable service for their business and holiday travel needs,” said Director of Aviation Kim Becker Aguirre. “Airport staff and partners are committed to providing an excellent experience for travelers and we’re pleased our community continues to choose Silicon Valley’s airport.”
