Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist, New York Times Bestselling Author Join in Lively Conversation at Packed Event
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Oct. 29, 2018) – Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ronan Farrow and Richard Rothstein, author of the New York Times bestseller The Color of Law, held a conversation at BRIDGE Housing’s 35th anniversary gala on Thursday. Michael McAfee, President and CEO of PolicyLink, facilitated the talk at the “Building Equitable Communities” gala, which raised nearly $2 million to benefit the thousands of low-income residents BRIDGE serves.
“Having affordable housing available at all levels is critical to a vibrant and functioning city,” said Farrow. “I’m pleased to be able to support BRIDGE’s mission by coming here.”
In her remarks, BRIDGE Housing President and CEO Cynthia Parker pointed to the organization’s holistic placemaking as a solution to systemic discrimination and inequalities—issues that both Rothstein and Farrow have addressed in their writings.
“It was an honor to have Ronan and Richard join us,” said Parker. “The gala is our biggest event and a major fundraiser for programs that connect residents to opportunities for education, wellness and brighter futures.”
Bank of America, Cannon Constructors and US Bank were the top three of the event’s 130 generous sponsors (complete sponsor list: www.bridgehousing.com/b35).
Parker said BRIDGE, widely known as a leading nonprofit developer of affordable housing on the West Coast, creates and manages a range of high quality, affordable homes for families and seniors. Since it was founded in 1983, BRIDGE has participated in the development of over 17,000 homes serving more than 40,000 people.
