Swinerton and PG&E Break Ground on New Fresno Distribution Control Center

Fresno, CA – May 23, 2013  Swinerton Builders and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) celebrated groundbreaking Friday on a new 24,000-square-foot electric distribution control center in Fresno, CA. Once complete, the new center will enhance electric reliability for PG&E customers by incorporating smart grid technology into 24/7 monitoring operations.

The PG&E South Regional Distribution Control Center will be built on a 2.5-acre greenfield site on the western portion of an existing PG&E facility. It will house a 7,000-square-foot control theater, a disaster recovery room, and other open office support spaces. The steel structure is being designed and built for LEED® Certification and to meet high seismic standards.

Last month, Swinerton and PG&E broke ground on another distribution control center in Concord, CA. Along with a third location planned in Rocklin, the three control centers will manage a service territory encompassing 140,000 miles of distribution lines, which provide power to approximately 5.1 million customers.
