Woodland Park: Backpack Giveaway

Equity Residential’s Woodland Park Property Team Hold’s Inaugural Event on Behalf of Residents Living in 1,812 Unit Apartment Property in East Palo Alto. More Than 500 Backpacks and School Supplies Distributed at Initial Event.

East Palo Alto, CA (September 6, 2012) – Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), owner and operator of the 1,182 unit Woodland Park Apartments in East Palo Alto, announced a make-up day for those residents with school age children that were unable to participate in their First “Back to School – Backpack Giveaway” recently held at the property.

This make up day follows the first installment of the event, a festive gathering of residents in a landscaped grass courtyard within the 101 building complex, where each child had the ability to browse and select their favorite school-supply stuffed backpack amongst the more than 500 displayed.

Given the enthusiasm and joy expressed by the children and their families, and the inability of some families to attend the initial giveaway, Equity Residential’s Woodland Park management team announced a make-up day on Tuesday, September 11th, from 5 – 6PM in the property management offices at 5 Newell Court for those children that missed out.

“Our goal is to provide the students within Woodland Park with the tools they need to start the school year on strong footing,” said Chris Peter, Managing Director of Equity Residential. “This started as an idea from one our regional managers and then grew into a group effort across our Bay Area management teams who collectively raised money through various grass roots fundraisers to purchase the supplies. This worthy effort was launched by our local representatives in the community, but that level of commitment has the full support of our entire organization.”

Since acquiring the Woodland Park Apartment Community in December of 2011, Equity Residential has initiated a comprehensive and extensive improvement program throughout the entire community – from fresh paint, to new carpet and even returning some formerly unlivable units to functioning use. The School Backpack Giveaway is just one more way that Equity Residential is striving to contribute to the large community of residents that call the Woodland Park Apartments home. According to Peter, “We strive to not only improve the buildings themselves, the landscaping and the building systems, but we also put a high priority on improving the lifestyle experience for residents at our properties and the communities at large.”

The Woodland Park Apartment Community is made up of 101 individual buildings offering 1,812 apartment units ranging from studios up to four bedroom floor plans. The various buildings making up the property were built between 1912 and 1969. This collection of unique properties assembled in direct proximity to University Avenue at its intersection with the 101 Freeway cover approximately 49 acres, and feature a mix of garden style, podium, duplex and single family home structures.
