BCCI Projects Win IIDA Design Awards

San Francisco, CA – BCCI Construction Company (BCCI), the Bay Area’s premier commercial contractor, is pleased to announce that two projects that the company recently completed have been awarded 2014 IIDA Design Awards. The awards ceremony took place last night at The Fox Theater in Oakland, California. The evening marked the 10th Annual IIDA NC Honor Awards. The award winning projects include:

Square 1.12 2Square [Category: Corporate Workplace Environment | Work Large]
This 203,000-square-foot, four-story space was designed by architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and built by BCCI in collaboration with project management firm The Rockridge Group. The distinctive space, which is made up of 100,000 square foot floor plates maximizes workplace innovation by incorporating a city-like “boulevard” that cuts through the large open plan area, allowing co-workers to intermingle with one another easily. The workplace caters to the modern day worker by including high-end amenities, such as a gourmet cafeteria, library, yoga center, smoothie and juice bar, as well as a sundeck and state-of-the-art auditorium.

The project is just the latest build-out that BCCI has completed for Square. Having worked most recently on the company’s 110 Fifth Street space, BCCI has witnessed firsthand the rapid growth that Square has been experiencing, from startup to trailblazer.

battery-005 2The Battery [Category: Play: Where We Entertain Ourselves]
This unique 60,000-square-foot project, with architecture by FME Architecture + Design and interiors by Ken Fulk Design, was converted into a new private social club. The renovation of the existing three-story unreinforced masonry building—originally designed by early 20th-century architect William Mooser II—required a mandatory seismic upgrade and also included restoration work, an expansion of the basement level, and the addition of a fourth floor penthouse to the L-shaped building, which for years featured a courtyard and entrance on Pacific Avenue. The new building now extends the existing Battery Street facade, and a new facade on Pacific Street creates more of a presence. Known for their expertise in sustainable building, BCCI reused materials throughout the building, such as columns, beams, and joists, applying every construction method available to deliver a project unlike any other in the heart of San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood. Furthermore, BCCI incorporated a state-of-the-art strengthening system that holds the building in place with three new steel moment frames that extend through each floor, allowing the beautiful interior brick surfaces to remain exposed.
