Downtown Ice Rink Opens Nov. 16 in Downtown San Jose

SAN JOSE – Hawaiian Airlines / Kristi Yamaguchi Downtown Ice begins its 17th season overall and ninth in the Circle of Palms on Nov. 16. More than just an ice skating experience, Downtown Ice represents making memories and building traditions with family and friends.

“I am humbled and honored to be associated with this iconic rink,” said Kristi Yamaguchi, 1992 Olympic figure skating gold medal champion, who partners with her Always Dream Foundation and the San Jose Downtown Association.
With Hawaiian Airlines as title sponsor, Downtown Ice skaters have embraced the traditional “aloha” spirit of Hawaii. Skaters twirl and glide around circular outdoor rink and 32 palms that twinkle with holiday lights.

The Fairmont San Jose, adjacent to the rink, is offering a special holiday overnight package. Available through Dec. 30, the package starts at $149 and includes anight in a Fairmont guest room, two anytime passes to Downtown Ice, two Winter Wonderland wristbands good for unlimited rides for a day, and a concession voucher at Christmas in the Park. Downtown Ice attracts 45,000 skaters and twice as manyspectators. Christmas in the Park will attract another 400,000 people.

Yamaguchi describes Downtown Ice as “the best designed and most innovative outdoor skating rink I have ever seen.”

The rink is open daily through Jan. 13, 2013. Admission is $13 for children 10 and younger and $15 for everyone else, skate rental included.

A number of promotions are scheduled throughout the rink run. For example, on five Tuesdays, those who bring their own skates will skate for free.
