Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Proposed Apple Campus 2 Released for Public Comment

Cupertino, CA, June 6, 2013- The City of Cupertino announced that the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for Apple Inc.’s (NYSE: APPL) proposed Apple Campus 2 has been released. Copies of the Draft EIR’s are available HERE

The City of Cupertino is the lead agency for the review and possible approval of the proposed Apple Campus 2. Apple Inc. has submitted a development proposal to replace existing office and research buildings to create its new Apple Campus 2. Most of the 176 acre area is located on the former Hewlett Packard (HP) campus in Cupertino and is bounded by I-280 to the south, Wolfe Road to the west, Homestead Road to the north and North Tantau Avenue to the east and includes properties on the east side of North Tantau Avenue.
The proposal includes:

  • Demolition of approximately 2.65 million square feet of existing office, research and development buildings; construction of an office, research and development building comprising approximately 2.8 million square feet; a 1,000 seat corporate auditorium, a 100,000 square foot corporate fitness center and
  • Subsequent development of office, research and development facilities comprising approximately 600,000 square feet located on both sides of Tantau Avenue; and
  • Associated parking facilities and utility and ancillary buildings including a central plant, two satellite plants and maintenance and security buildings.

Cupertino’s review process will include an Environmental Impact Report, including identification of significant effects from traffic, noise, air quality, etc. and feasible mitigations, as required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Subsequently, public hearings will be held before the Planning Commission and the City Council on both the Environmental Impact Report and the project.

CEQA requires a 45-day public review period of the Draft EIR to allow the public opportunity to provide comments regarding the adequacy of the Draft EIR. The public is invited to submit feedback through the City of Cupertino’s web form located at: www.cupertino.org/applecomments.

The deadline for written comments is 5:30PM PST, Monday, July 22, 2013. Responses to all written comments received during the 45-day public review period will be provided in the Final EIR expected to be published later in 2013.

The public is also invited to a meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 where comments on the adequacy of the Draft EIR will be collected. The meeting will be held at the Cupertino Community Hall beginning at 6:30PM. Cupertino Community Hall is located at 10350 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, CA 95014.
