OAKLAND, CALIF — Gensler, the global design firm, announced that Chris Wendel has joined their Oakland office as a Design Director. Wendel, a design professional with over 30 years of experience, brings a thoughtful, client-focused approach to design and possesses a wide range of expertise that encompasses all phases of architectural interiors for workplace, retail, and hospitality projects.
“Chris has an inherent leadership ability and immense capacity to mentor and guide our junior designers — these are invaluable qualities,” said Matin Zargari, Managing Director of Gensler’s Oakland office. “She is a wonderful addition to our team.”
Prior to joining Gensler, Wendel was an Associate with STUDIOS Architecture, an international architecture and interior design firm in San Francisco. Her broad portfolio includes projects that span the San Francisco Bay Area, including work with notable clients such as Apple, Google, Logitech, and the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to her time with STUDIOS Wendel was a Principal at Holey Associates.
At Gensler, Wendel will play an essential role in the evolution of design performance in the tech workplace, building on the success of projects such as Riverbed’s Headquarters in San Francisco and an innovative AT&T workplace project in San Ramon. She has also been instrumental in the design and construction of Gensler’s new Oakland office, opening in January 2015.
“I look forward to connecting with the other designers, as well as opening a dialogue that crosses disciplinary boundaries. I’m excited to be a part of an exchange that can positively shape the built environment and one where innovation can emerge,” said Wendel, “Gensler’s multi-disciplinary approach and deep bench make this possible.”
Wendel holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design from Ohio State University, and is a member of the International Interior Design Association. Her work has been published in Interior Design, Dwell, Contract, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
