City Manager of Redwood City Appoints Alex Khojikian as Deputy City Manager

Thirteen year municipal government veteran tapped from City of Half Moon Bay to fill new role within the City Manager’s Office

REDWOOD CITY, CA., July 15, 2016— The City of Redwood City announced today the selection of Alex Khojikian to serve as deputy city manager following an extensive executive search process which attracted over 90 candidates. This new key position in the City Manager’s Office will help support City Council initiatives in community engagement, strategic planning and priority setting.

Khojikian has over thirteen years of municipal experience and currently is the Deputy City Manager for Half Moon Bay. Prior to coming to the County of San Mateo, Khojikian worked for the communities of Paramount and Anaheim in Southern California.

“I am very pleased Alex will be joining our team. He is a smart and adaptable problem solver, with a strong history of developing effective working relationships throughout the community.” said Melissa Stevenson Diaz, city manager of the City of Redwood City. “Alex’s experience engaging diverse communities will be a great fit for the City of Redwood City.”

Khojikian has a strong foundation managing City services and community relations for both small and large municipal governments leading a wide range of municipal activities including city management, economic development, finance, environmental sustainability, risk management, parks and recreation, public works, capital projects, and public information.

In Half Moon Bay, Khojikian led several complex projects including the development of a new library and new skate park, and renovations of existing parks and a community center. These efforts required substantial community engagement, collaboration with stakeholders, and development of financial partnerships to ensure the successful completion of these capital projects. Khojikian also managed the City Council’s annual priority setting retreat and strategic plan update, was responsible for communications and media relations, and helped establish the City’s first Citizen’s Academy, offered in both English and Spanish.

“I am delighted to join Redwood City’s collaborative leadership team to further the City’s mission and strategic initiatives.” said Alex Khojikian. “The community has a strong reputation for working together with the City to find solutions, and I look forward to getting to know Redwood City’s diverse community and stakeholders.”

Khojikian has a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach. Khojikian lives in Mountain View with his wife and two year old.

Khojikian will start with the City of Redwood City on August 15, 2016.
